As Paddle Nepal steps into 2026, we’re beginning the year in a way that feels deeply aligned with our values — supporting community, professionalism, and the next generation of river athletes in Nepal.

Our boss, Nim Bahadur Magar, has just returned from assisting the Himalayan River Guide Association Nepal (HRGAN) with their first-ever Himalayan River Guide Association Kayak Championship, held on January 2–3, 2026.

Paddle Nepal was proud to co-sponsor the event, and Nim served as Competition Director and Chief Judge, working alongside HRGAN to help ensure the championship was run with fairness, clarity, and strong organizational standards.

The competition featured Border Cross and Freestyle disciplines, with 35 paddlers from across Nepal participating. The level of commitment, talent, and sportsmanship on display — particularly among younger paddlers — was inspiring to witness.

Events like this are about far more than podium results. They create pathways. They build confidence. They raise standards. And they give young Nepali kayakers a reason to believe that their dedication can lead somewhere meaningful.

As an organization that has grown alongside Nepal’s river community for nearly two decades, we feel both pride and responsibility in supporting initiatives like this — especially those led by Nepali associations, for Nepali paddlers.

We extend our congratulations to all participants and winners, and our sincere thanks to HRGAN for their leadership and collaboration.

Here’s to starting the year with purpose — and to a strong, hopeful future for kayaking and river sports in Nepal.
